1. The merger of ten Taipei municipal hospitals into one unit has made the Taipei City Hospital a large healthcare institutein Northern Taiwan. The purpose of this merger was not only to improve hospital-and community- based healthcare, but also to rebuild Taipei City’s entire public healthcare system. The theme of this reform was the creation of a “Wholistic Care System”.

2. Taipei City Hospital has a total of 7 branches, which are located in various administrative districts of Taipei City. The supply of hospital beds is sufficient, and the resources of each institution are shared among seven branches and thus the research efficacy could be enhanced.

3. Our hospital is committed to Home care, Palliative care, Long-term care, and Integrated dementia care, and so is capable of developing clinical trials of related medical devices.

Site Introduction

The Centre of Clinical Trials (CCT) in Department of Education and Research in Taipei City Hospital (TPECH) was launched in 2009 and the relevant facilities werefounded in 2010. It is located at the 8th floor of the main building in Ren-ai Branch. We aim to encourage investigators in TPECH to translate their biological discoveries into clinical settings i.e. to realize improving human health through science. We design a series of training programs to help professionals to gain a solid understanding of the entire clinical trials process – from development of a new medication and device to monitoring and surveillance of post marketing activities. The key feature of these training initiatives is to ensure that the clinical investigators are well grounded in protocol design, research process, data management and analysis along with understanding of records confidentiality and research subjects protection. Subjects’ rights should always be the top priority in clinical trials. All protocols for clinical trials must be reviewed by REC, the Institutional Review Board, in TPECH. For new medications and devices, the approval from Food and Drug Administration in Taiwan (TFDA) is alsomandatory.

Our center is devoted to partnering with principal investigator (PI), industry and other research organizations. We provide consulting services (including pre-contract review, budget planning, and anything relevant to the trial) for both PI and sponsor. We hope that the administrative processing of the trial can be performed as soon as possible with our help.
